Rainwater Builds Highly Complex FBO Terminal for Ascension

BUSINESS: ASCENSION
CATEGORY: AVIATION
LOCATION: KENNESAW, GA
SQ. FOOTAGE: 6,987
CONSTRUCTION TYPE: GROUND-UP NEW CONSTRUCTION
PARTNERS: AMERICAN BUILDINGS

Rainwater Construction served as both general contractor and steel erector on the construction of a new terminal building for Ascension, a fixed-based operator that maintains more than 500K square feet of hangar space nationwide. The 6,987 square-foot PEMB included installation of a 360° standing-lock-seam metal roof, exterior façade systems, and high-end interior architectural finishes.

Interior construction focused heavily on detailed finishes with features including Rulon wood ceiling systems and feltworks acoustic blade clouds. The joining of the various interior finishes required careful sequencing and implementation to maintain visual alignment and quality. The building also features a high-performance polished concrete floor, achieved through a multi-step chemical treatment process.

Because the building is located in an active airport environment, the project site presented several logistical challenges, including strict foreign object debris control requirements, limited laydown space for materials and equipment, and coordination of deliveries within a constrained jobsite footprint. Daily jobsite cleanliness and coordinated trade scheduling were essential to maintaining safe operations throughout the construction process.

“A lot of planning and effort went into this building. We worked hard to keep the site impeccably clean and we’re proud of how the building turned out – especially the high-end finishes, and decorative ceiling. It’s a beautiful building.”
